Podcast: Insider's Guide to Copenhagen - Nature, tranquillity and a uniquely preserved village

Foto: Mark Tanggaard

Join Indian comedian Kriti Prajapati as she takes radio and television host Esben Bjerre for a stroll through some of her favourite Copenhagen East spots and shares what makes it special to her.

Kriti Prajapati had never heard of Copenhagen when her husband accepted a job there. Seven years later, she has now shifted her career from engineer to comedian, where she mostly looks at Danes from the outside and lovingly pokes fun at them. She feels safe in Copenhagen and connected to nature here, even though Dragør can be hard to pronounce!

Join Kriti as she shows Esben where she spends her time in Copenhagen East  - by bike, of course!

Naturpark Amager

Just a few kilometres from the city’s vibrant life is the Naturpark Amager. Naturpark Amager covers the area from Amager Fælled through Kalvebod Fælled, Pinseskoven and Kongelunden, along the southern beach leading to Dragør Fort. The nature park is home to many different types of nature, and you can experience coastal landscapes, magnificent wetlands, marshes, and birch forests.

Traktørstedet Vestamager

Traktørstedet Vestamager is a cafe serving breakfast, lunch and other refreshments right on the front row of 2,000 hectares of wild nature on the edge of Copenhagen. Take a seat on the big patio and enjoy lunch with a second-to-none view of the nature reserve Kalvebod Fælled. Tratørstedet Vestamager is open all year round, so you’ll ”naturally” get a different experience for each season you visit.

Kalvebod Fælled

Vestamager offers vast expanses, where sun, light, and damp, salty earth are vital for the plants and animals on this littoral meadow. 1200 cows, deers, and horses prevent the woods from spreading. Vestamager is also an essential habitat for insects, toads, frogs, and salamanders because the area is neither sprinkled nor fertilized.

Gabriel Jensens Traktørsted

Gabriel Jensens Traktørsted is a Scandinavian beach bar serving breakfast and lunch, which you can enjoy with direct views of Øresund and Dragør beach and lake. If you are a non-Dane and you're up for it like Kriti, the "pil-selv-rejer" is definitely a must.

Dragør

Dragør is simply magical. With buildings dated all the way back to the 1700s, there is a special and historic atmosphere. The harbour contributes to the cosy atmosphere, and creates a slow-paced lifestyle. Just like Esben and Kriti, getting lost in history (while eating an ice cream!) is very easy when visiting Dragør.
