Podcast: Insider's Guide to Copenhagen - Architecture, Italian food and waterfronts

Foto: Mark Tanggaard

Join Australian architect Enlai Hooi as he takes radio and television host Esben Bjerre for a stroll through some of his favourite Copenhagen spots and shares what makes Copenhagen special to him.

When Enlai Hooi was looking to relocate from Australia, he knew he wanted to go to Europe, and "by luck" ended up in Copenhagen. With an Irish-Chinese background, he feels that he blends perfectly into the multicultural Copenhagen, where "nobody cares where you are from." As an architect, the medieval buildings that almost intertwine with each other never cease to amaze him, along with the water that glues the city together.

Join Enlai as he shows Esben where he spends his time in Copenhagen and where he brings his international friends - both by bike, foot and boat!

Room 606

Room 606 lies inside Radisson Collection Royal Hotel in the heart of Copenhagen, and is an homage to Danish Designer Arne Jacobsen and his works. It is not possible to stay in the room, but open to visitors, who find themselves interested in Danish Design and a trip back to the 1960's. The room stands untouched exactly as Arne Jacobsen designed it. As Enlai states " Luxury does not have to be about opulence, it can be about light."

La Trinacria

While Copenhagen is quite far from the Mediterranean Sea, La Trinacria makes you feel as if you have landed right in the heart of a small Italian village. With all its commodities from Sicily and a whole lot of Italian love from the staff, the dishes, wine and atmosphere is unmatched. There is also a cute courtyard where you can enjoy your meal or a coffee - Mediterranean weather is not guaranteed!

GoBoat

GoBoat is an eco-friendly and fun way to cruise Copenhagen's canals as the captain of your own ship. It is also the perfect day out, as Enlai says  "drinking nice natural wine on the Copenhagen harbour in an electrical boat” is his idea of a very nice day out.

V'italian

On Gråbrødre Torv in the centre of Copenhagen, V'italian has established itself as a solid Italian restaurant. Even though all the ingredients are non-animal, there is absolutely nothing missing. Every ingredient is taken care of and the dishes are solidly put together. There's an almost playful approach to classic Italian dishes, such as Miso e Pepe.
